Le projet

Le but de ce projet est de permettre aux personnes de recevoir des cartes postales depuis le monde entier, gratuitement. Enfin... presque ! Le principe à retenir est : Si vous envoyez une carte postale, vous en recevez une autre en retour, depuis un "postcrosseur" (expéditeur) tiré au hasard depuis n'importe où dans le monde.

Pourquoi ? Pour obtenir le plaisir de recevoir des cartes postales du monde entier, d'endroits que vous ne connaissez probablement pas, transformant votre habituelle boîte aux lettres en boîte à surprises !

Comment ça marche ?

Tout d'abord, une version plus courte :

     1- Demandez une adresse sur le site web du
         "postcrossing"
     2- Envoyez la carte postale à l'adresse indiquée
     3- Patientez l'arrivée d'une carte postale
     4- Enregistrez la carte postale arrivée sur le site web

La première étape consiste en la demande d'une adresse aléatoire de quelqu'un lui-même déjà enregistré sur le site web du "crossposting". Vous devrez envoyer une carte postale à l'adresse indiquée par mail, en mentionnant l'identifiant de cet envoi donné également dans le mail (exemple : FR-837) qui identifie de manière unique la carte dans le site web. Puis, vous postez la carte. Lorsque le destinataire a reçu votre carte postale, il l'enregistre par son identifiant sur le site web. Cela vous permettra d'être la prochaine personne dont l'adresse sera communiquée à un "postcrosser" (expéditeur) quelque part dans le monde, qui vient de demander une adresse sur le site, et qui à son tour vous enverra une carte postale.

Vous pouvez recevoir beaucoup de cartes postales : une en retour de la votre, ainsi qu'une au hasard. Vous pouvez poursuivre la relation avec les correspondants.

Vous pouvez demander cinq adresses à la fois. Quand votre carte est reçue, vous recevez une notification par mail.

The project

The goal of this project is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world, for free. Well, almost. The main line is: if you send a postcard, you'll receive at least one back, from a random postcrosser somewhere in the world.

Why? Because, like the author, there are lots of people who like to receive stuff by mail. If you add to that, the surprise factor of receiving postcards from different places in the world that you probably never heard about, you can turn your mailbox into a little surprise box.

How does it work?

First, the short version:

1. request an address from the website

2. mail the postcard to the address

3. wait to receive a postcard

4. register the received postcard in the system

The first step is to request an address of someone else registered in the system to where you must mail a postcard. You will receive that address by email, plus a postcard ID (e.g.: US-78) which uniquely identifies that postcard in the system. Then, you must mail the postcard, and you should write on it the postcard ID given to you - that will allow the person who receives it to register that postcard on the website. That will make you the next person whose address will be given out to the next postcrosser who asks for an address to mail a postcard to.

In the end this works like a chain allowing people to receive at least two postcards when sending one: one from the person you sent the postcard to, and another from a random user of the system.

You may request up to 5 addresses at one time. When your postcards are received, and you are notified by e-mail, then you can request 5 more.
